Tasmania’s Grant Collins Competes for Australia at the
Interflora World Cup in Shanghai.
Interflora Australia was proudly represented by Grant Collins at the recent Interflora
World Cup competition, held in Shanghai, China. Grant had the opportunity of a lifetime
to demonstrate his expertise to a large international audience alongside the best
florists in the world.
Competitors were challenged with creating four Oriental-themed floral designs, which
included 'Designer's Choice: Flowers On the Orient', 'Table Arrangement: Green Tea
for Two', 'Bridal Bouquet: The Oriental Pearl', and ‘Free-standing Arrangement:
Shanghai Tang'. An audience of over 2,000 spectators (including over 100 Interflora
members from Australia) were able to witness florists from 20 countries interpret
the themes and their resulting creations.
Grant reached the finals based on his four pieces and the ten finalists then had
to prepare two surprise items on stage; a bouquet and a large arrangement. After
careful deliberation by the international judges, Stein Are Hansen from Norway ultimately
won the trophy, with Yvonne Roth from Switzerland the runner up and Chang Sung Won
from Korea awarded 3rd place. Grant achieved a 4th placing overall so certainly
did Australia proud. His months of preparation and learning new skills saw him ranked
amongst the world’s best florists. From all of us at Interflora Australia we say
"Well done Grant!"
Shown below are pictures of Grant working on his pieces, the overall winners and
some of the amazing designer pieces created during the competition.
