Van Gogh Sunflowers

Sunflowers in a Vase

One of the most famous works Van Gogh ever produced, Sunflowers is the title of two series of still life paintings by the Dutch painter. The first series, created in 1887, depicts the flowers lying on the ground, while the second set, made a year later shows a bouquet of sunflowers in a vase. The second series was painted in the South of France, where Van Gogh dreamed of uniting a community of like-minded artists. Van Gogh originally painted them as a decoration for the living quarters of his friend Paul Gauguin.
